Usturlab Workshop was held with the participation of Msc. Wilfred de Graaf from Utrecht University.
On Monday, May 26, 2025, at 13.30, an "Astrolabe Workshop" was held at the Library Conference Hall with the participation of Msc. Wilfred de Graaf from Utrecht University.
In the workshop, where comprehensive information about the function and usage areas of the astrolabe, a historical observation tool used in astronomical observations, was shared, students gained theoretical knowledge. They had the opportunity to reinforce this knowledge with practical studies. During the presentation, Asst. Prof. Dr. İrem Aslan Seyhan provided instant translation support to our guest, Wilfred de Graaf, and helped students follow the content better.
The participants were given astrolabe models rearranged according to the positions of today's stars and specially prepared worksheets. Students made calculations based on their birthdays and obtained various data on sky observations. Information such as day length and degree calculations were found with the help of the astrolabe, and studies were carried out on the modern equivalents of ancient observation techniques.
Students learned with fun throughout the event and developed their scientific thinking skills. The Astrolabe Workshop attracted great interest with its curiosity-inducing structure and interactive content; it offered an environment that supported interdisciplinary learning.
At the end of the program, Msc. Wilfred de Graaf was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions. The event ended with a souvenir photo session with all participants.
