Orientation Event for the Fall 2024 Academic Year.
The orientation training for the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year was held on September 25, 2024. Prof. Dr. Aslı Yazıcı, the head of the Philosophy Department, began her speech by congratulating and welcoming the new students to the department family. Following a brief introduction among faculty members and attending students, Dr. Öner Güler presented crucial information about our university, faculty, and department. This presentation covered the establishment, mission, vision, management structure, departments, and campuses of Bartın University. Details about our department, including its founding, current student enrollment, and graduate programs, were also shared. Students were reminded to regularly check the department's web page for updates and information.
Additionally, students were informed about counseling services and the Erasmus, Farabi, and Mevlana exchange programs were explained. The presentation highlighted how to apply for these programs and discussed the benefits of participating in exchange opportunities for students. After presenting the concepts of double major and minor programs, it was emphasized that it is essential for students to take advantage of these opportunities for personal and professional growth. After mentioning the job opportunities of the students who graduated from our department, I was informed that there is part-time student employment at our university during the period they are students. The Bartın University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations were briefly outlined for the students. They were also shown how to navigate the e-course and ÜBYS systems.
Also, the library, dining hall, and sports facilities were introduced. We discussed the activities of the Philosophy Club, one of the student clubs within the Department of Health, Culture, and Sports, and encouraged new students to join. It was clear that students can contact us with requests, complaints, or suggestions via the Rimer and Contact Us links; our university and our department are committed to accessibility and communication. Finally, students were informed about participating in surveys conducted by our university and department, emphasizing the importance of their feedback. At the end of the orientation, we held presentations to raise awareness about addiction, including the dangers of tobacco, alcohol, and drug use. Students were warned about the risks associated with addiction and provided with information on how to combat it.
The training was completed with the wish that the new academic year would suit our students and faculty members.
