Nokwanda Mbhele presented at the Twelfth Session of Philosophy Talks.

The twelfth session of the Philosophy Talks event, organized regularly by the Department of Philosophy, was held on January 20, 2025, at the Faculty of Letters meeting room. In this session, Nokwanda Mbhele gave a presentation titled “Exploring the Ethical Implications of Using Humans and Animals in Medical Research: Leveraging Digital Twins as a Proposed Solution.” The presentation discussed the ethical dimensions of using humans and animals in medical research, and the potential of digital twin technology to solve the ethical violations caused by these practices was highlighted. It was stated that digital twins could replace experiments on real subjects by creating virtual copies of biological beings, thus minimizing ethical problems. It was emphasized that the innovative approach could lead to more reliable results in medical research and significant progress in animal and human rights issues. After the presentation, which was followed by interest, questions from the audience were answered, and the event ended with the participants taking souvenir photos.
